A Single Man, uber-designer Tom Ford’s first film, is a shrine to 1960s California culture. It may still be in an art house theater near you, but if not, it was just announced the DVD will be out July 6. Naturally, the film is visually stunning. Colin Firth received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of mourning single guy George. The soundtrack by Abel Korzeniowski and Shigeru Umebayashi is so hauntingly moving, I downloaded it as soon as I returned home from the theater. Another highlight of the film is George’s residence, where much of the movie is set. The Schaffer House was designed by modernist architect John Lautner in 1949 and is located at 527 Whiting Woods Road in Glendale, California. See the movie, download the soundtrack, then buy the house. The Schaffer House is currently on the market and can be yours for $1.5M.
