The 07/60 Sorrento Sand Shoe – its inspiration is derived from the days when beach volleyball was just starting to be engrained into the California lifestyle. The sport grew throughout the fifties and by the summer of 1960 had become quite the scene for players and celebrities alike. Santa Monica established itself as the hub and in July hosted the first official beach volleyball event. John F. Kennedy, in Los Angeles to accept the Democratic party’s nomination for US President, made his way down to the courts to watch. Marilyn Monroe happened to be there that day too. No doubt JFK was taken by the iconic bombshell – but that story you know.
